Salford Royal, Hope Hospital

25 June 2013 13:28

Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust is celebrating receiving the keys to its brand new hospital wing known as Hope Building. Balfour Beatty Construction formally handed the building over to the Trust on Monday, August 29th, 2011, following two years’ building work, which has seen 450 construction workers on-site at the peak of construction. Salford Royal Chief Executive David Dalton said: “After being involved in the first stage of planning 10 years ago and then watching the building gradually taking shape over the past two years, it’s a very proud and happy moment to see it complete.
“I am absolutely thrilled with our fantastic new building. We’ve worked with patient representatives and staff to make sure it provides the best possible environment to care for our patients.

The challenge in both outpatients (dialysis) and Ward H8 (IFU) was to provide free to use TV and radio in multi bedded and single room spaces via especially high (1300mm) ceiling voids. Considering this and other factors the upfront selection of the ceiling pole, mounting solution and TV assembly was critical.

Several ‘mock ups’ and options were presented and provided by Airwave to assist the Trust with a best possible solution. The Trust opted for a 1.5m chrome finish pole with a tilt and swivel ball mount for the 22” White Samsung Healthcare TV complimented with the white Samsung PureCare wipe down remote. The overall result provided a truly 21st century modern looking, patient entertainment solution delighting staff and patients alike.

4 bedded bays benefit from multi remote set up function to prevent ‘cross firing’ between beds.

The hospitality mode on the TV has volume limitation although in this case, audio cables from the TV have been run up the pole and down to individual sockets set in the bed head trunking.

Renal dialysis patients have been issued with their own personal headphone set which can be plugged in conveniently whether in the bed or chair and enjoy TV or radio without disturbing other patients.

Clear, simple guides help patients navigate the controls on their Samsung PureCare Remotes.
