The Douglas Macmillan Hospice
The Douglas Macmillan Hospice in Stoke-on-Trent already have TV’s in all patient single rooms however, patients in the three and four bedded areas of the Hospice were struggling to view 8” screens, some of which didn’t work at all.
Airwave Healthcare were asked to assist and advise on replacing the system in each of the 14 beds in multi bedded bays.
Our 1.5m reach folding arm with gas assisted articulating function was the chosen solution for the Hospice.
Following the installation of a demonstration sample, patients, ward staff and members of the Hospice maintenance team were all consulted on the suitability, best height and most appropriate fixing position.
Airwave Healthcare worked extensively with the Hospice to select the most appropriate arm with 19” healthcare Freeview TV.
The challenges here included limited space on the bedhead wall and the need for wall strengthening. A bespoke pattress was made which was externally fitted within the space available.
Purecare remotes with multi settings (to prevent cross firing within the bay) were fitted with anti ligature curly cords then anchored to the wall patress along with an easy clean perspex holder which provides safe and secure stowage.
So delighted were the staff about the remote anchoring, they asked Airwave Healthcare installers to do the same with the existing TV remotes in the single rooms as well. As with most hospices and hospitals, remote controls are constantly being lost, stolen or sent to laundry with sheets, our solution really does help combat this.
The arm supplied here has an integral handle and all cables are contained within the arm to provide a neat, easy clean, finish.
All patients and their visitors at the Hospice can now enjoy the independence and unlimited choice of their own TV with radio in both single and multi bedded rooms.
The use of headphones within the bays is preferred but not mandatory and the TV’s have been programmed to have volume limitation, for the comfort of everyone.
